We have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about booking, ferry crossings, public transport and much more.

You can buy your ticket conveniently online here on our homepage and of course via our web app faehre.de. You can also buy tickets at our ticket counters and ticket machines in the harbours of Dagebüll, Wittdün on Amrum and Wyk on Föhr as well as at the island car park in Dagebüll. In Schlüttsiel, the ticket counter is located at the harbour and is open one hour before the ferry departs. It is not necessary to reserve a seat for passengers.

When booking online, you will then receive an email with your ticket (e-ticket) as a PDF attachment. In the web app, the ticket is displayed as a QR code in your customer account under "Bookings - Tickets". You can show the ticket to the ticket inspector before boarding or scan the QR code yourself at the access control.

Yes, the easiest way is to book directly online on your mobile phone. Alternatively, we offer last-minute bookers the opportunity to buy tickets at our ticket machines and ticket counters in the harbours of Dagebüll, Wittdün on Amrum and Wyk on Föhr as well as at the island car park in Dagebüll. In Schlüttsiel, the ticket office is also located at the harbour and is open one hour before each ferry departure.

Of course, dogs (on a lead) are also welcome guests on board - your four-legged friends can even travel with you free of charge! Please note that dogs are not permitted on the seats.

Children under the age of six are transported free of charge. Reduced prices apply for passengers under the age of 15.

Your children will also enjoy the ferry crossing! In the children's area there is a nice place to play and a ball pool.

If you are travelling by bike, please be at the pier at least 15 minutes before departure so that the bikes can be loaded. For stowage reasons, bicycles must be leant against each other during the crossing. To protect your bike from scratches or other damage, you can wrap a towel or similar around sensitive parts. Please note that we are unable to provide any such aids.

Folding bicycles can be taken on board free of charge if they are transported or carried folded up.

Please note that the shipping company accepts no liability for damage to the bicycle. Details can be found in our GTC.

We are also happy to transport handcarts, bicycle or dog trailers. Please note that you must purchase a valid ticket for this.

The price for car transport is based on the length and type of your vehicle. You can enter all the necessary details in our tariff calculator and then find out the calculated price.

If you are booking a journey with us online for the first time, you can register in just a few steps. Your advantage: Your data and vehicle information will be saved and applied directly next time.

As a new customer, simply enter the required details and assign a password of your choice. For all subsequent bookings, you only need to log in with your e-mail address and password.

The price for vehicle transport depends on the length of your car. For this reason, the vehicle registration certificate (registration certificate part 1) must be presented each time the vehicle is checked to verify the length of the vehicle. Please have the vehicle licence ready and show it to our staff without being asked. Please understand that it is not possible to transport a vehicle without presenting the vehicle licence. Otherwise, ourGeneral fare conditions.

This is of course also possible. If you would like to register more than one vehicle with W.D.R., you can add further vehicles in your customer account under "My vehicles". You can then choose between the vehicles you have added when making your booking.

We currently offer the payment methods direct debit, credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. If the booking is successful, the fare is due approximately 5 working days before the start of the journey when paying by direct debit. If you pay by credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, the fare is due immediately. Please note that payment by direct debit is currently only possible for bookings in connection with a vehicle. For refund requests received on or after the day of travel, please refer to our ATB.

We attach great importance to security when booking and paying. Your data is transmitted securely via an encrypted SSL connection. We guarantee that your details will only be used for W.D.R. vehicle bookings and will not be passed on to third parties. If you wish your data to be deleted after you have completed your journey, please inform us in writing (signed letter or fax), stating your customer number.

This is not a problem. Start the booking as usual and then enter the desired length. Enter the word "hire car" in the licence plate number field. As soon as you know the actual licence plate number and the exact length, send us a short e-mail. We will then send you an e-ticket with the changed data.

You can change the date and departure time in the "Rebook" view. A new ticket will then be generated automatically and sent to the e-mail address you have provided or stored in the web app. There are no charges for rebooking.

If the number of passengers or the length of the vehicle changes, you must cancel the old booking and create a new one. Amounts already paid will be automatically refunded to your account within 14 days.

For domestic customers, there is a deadline for rebookings or cancellations. After this deadline, a cancellation fee will be charged, see ABB ship.

This is not a problem and can be done free of charge before the outward journey date. Proceed as for a rebooking and select "Cancel" in the menu. Amounts already paid will be automatically refunded to your account within 14 days.

A big request: In the interest of other passengers, please rebook or cancel a ferry trip booked for your vehicle that is no longer required as early as possible to free up space for other travellers.

For domestic customers, there is a deadline for rebooking or cancellations. After this deadline, a cancellation fee will be charged, seeABB ship.

Refunds for journeys not cancelled in good time are subject to theGeneral Conditions of Carriage of the W.D.R.

To ensure a scheduled departure, you must be ready to load your vehicle in an allocated waiting lane on the pier at least 15 minutes before the booked departure time.

The rest of the process at a glance:

  • Check in at the drive-through counter with your e-ticket and show your vehicle registration document. Any changes to the desired departure time or the people travelling with you should also be communicated here.
  • You will then be allocated a waiting lane on the pier.
  • You will be instructed by our staff during loading.
  • As soon as your vehicle is safely parked on board, you can leave it and go to the saloon or sun deck.
  • Shortly before entering the harbour at your destination, we will inform you via loudspeaker announcements so that you have enough time to return to your vehicle.

Arrival & Parking

Firstly: As a pedestrian, you may board up to the last minute before departure. The following only applies to booked vehicles: If you have not changed your booking, only the booked departure time applies. If you are not ready for loading on the pier 15 minutes before the booked departure time, your reservation will be cancelled. In this case, you will only be able to board the ferry when a free ferry berth is available. Many trips are fully booked, especially during the holiday season, so be patient!

Our tip: Let your fellow travellers, especially families with small children, "drive up" on foot with hand luggage. On the islands, you can then continue by bus or taxi to your holiday accommodation or to the beach first!

If your vehicle is not yet registered as a local vehicle at the time of booking, you can apply for the "price reduction for local persons and their vehicles", also known colloquially as the "island tariff", at the W.D.R. counters on Föhr and Amrum. After checking the requirements (main residence of the vehicle owner, registration of the vehicle and actual centre of life on Föhr, Amrum or the Halligen), you will then be registered as a local customer. The ATB apply.

We would like to point out that refunds of differential amounts in this context are generally excluded.

Please also register with the system for the first online booking, providing all relevant data (see above). Please take particular care to enter your details as exactly as you are registered with W.D.R. as a local customer. This is the only way our booking system can find you and your vehicle and apply the right tariff for you.

An online booking with or without an e-ticket is considered confirmed. In order to avoid incorrect bookings of our ships from the islands to the mainland in the interests of all ferry customers, there is a cancellation rule when using reduced fares. This does not apply to normal fare payers. In the interest of your fellow passengers, please observe the relevant deadline for rebooking or cancellations. TheATB.

With our practical web app, you can book or adjust ferry crossings on your mobile devices anytime and anywhere. Once registered, you can view the current journey times, buy tickets, change reservations, cancel and much more with just a few clicks. In addition, a booked ticket is displayed directly in the web app and can be scanned so that you don't have to print out your ticket. This is not only convenient, but also sustainable!

With the web app, our website is saved on the home screen of the mobile device. For example, you can easily access your customer account.

4 steps to the web app for all iOS devices (Apple):

  1. Open Safari and go to the website www.faehre.de/meinefaehre.
  2. Tap on the "Share" symbol at the bottom (square with arrow pointing upwards). Scroll down and select "Go to home screen".
  3. If necessary, you can customise the name.
  4. Click on "Add". The icon is automatically placed on your home screen, but can be freely moved and sorted like any other app.

4 steps to the web app for all devices with Android:

  1. Open Chrome and go to the website www.faehre.de/meinefaehre.
  2. Tap on the three dots at the top right and select the menu item "Add to home screen".
  3. You can customise the name if required.
  4. Click on "Add". The Android phone shows a preview, which you must confirm again by clicking "Add".
    The icon is automatically placed on your home screen, but can be freely moved and sorted like any other app.

The web app can be used on all common mobile devices. Just try it out, it's child's play.

You will be offered the same payment methods as in the online booking. You can cancel the booking process at any time until payment has been made, even if you are already logged in. We currently offer the payment methods direct debit, credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. If the booking is successful, the fare is due approximately 5 working days before the start of the journey when paying by direct debit. With the web app, you can book your crossing quickly and easily, cancel or rebook existing crossings and use many helpful functions such as quick timetable information.

Naturally, people with reduced mobility can also use our ferries. All our passengers should enjoy the journey without restrictions - a standard that we have set ourselves as a modern island provider and which we always want to fulfil.

Föhr-Amrum line:

When planning the two double-ended ferries "Schleswig-Holstein" and "Uthlande", special consideration was given to people with limited mobility right from the start. What's more, W.D.R. had its new generation of ships voluntarily tested back in 2014 as part of the "Travel for All" project. As part of an extensive audit, it was assessed whether the "Schleswig-Holstein" and the "Uthlande" are really suitable for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users. The result: all areas used by customers and guests fulfil the quality criteria 'partially barrier-free for people with walking disabilities'. The car deck as well as the dining room on the saloon deck and the sun deck even fulfil the quality criteria'barrier-free for people in wheelchairs'."

The W.D.R.'s newest ship, M/S Norderaue, which has been in service on the Föhr-Amrum line since May 2018, has also paid particular attention to accessibility. The necessary criteria were taken into account from the outset when designing the ship.

Only the M/S Nordfriesland, which was built at a time when not as much attention was paid to accessibility as it is today, has a limitation in terms of accessibility. Unfortunately, the sun deck is not barrier-free for people with walking disabilities.

Hallig Line:

The "Hilligenlei" is in operation on the Hallig Line. The "Hilligenlei" was also built at a time when accessibility was not as important as it rightly is today. Accessibility is not guaranteed here to the same extent as on the new double-ended ferries. Due to its year of construction and special design, the "Hilligenlei" only has limited accessibility. Unfortunately, the saloon and sun deck are not barrier-free. The sanitary facilities are located on the vehicle deck (main deck).

Nevertheless, the W.D.R. can welcome guests with reduced mobility on board the "Hilligenlei" with a clear conscience.

So literally nothing stands in the way of a safe and comfortable journey to the islands and Halligen!

Severely disabled travellers with authorisation (supplementary sheet with token) are transported free of charge on scheduled services. If an accompanying person is registered (mark B), this person will also be transported free of charge. The corresponding tickets can be obtained exclusively at the ticket counter on presentation of the required documents. Medical aids (e.g. wheelchair, walking frame) are transported free of charge.

Of course, all our passengers can also rely on assistance in an emergency. It is important to remain calm and follow the crew's instructions. The handling of our diverse guests is precisely regulated by the shipping company's internal
safety management system and the crews are trained accordingly.

If you click on Bus transport in the menu structure, you have two options for finding out about bus timetables. Firstly, we provide you with the bus timetables as PDF files.

You also have the option of online timetable information. Simply click on "Bus timetable online". You will then be redirected to our partner NAH.SH.
Once you have entered the start and destination - this can be a bus stop or address - and the desired departure time, you will receive information on all bus connections.

Tip: If you are also travelling by ferry, ideally enter Dagebüll Mole as the start or destination, as this will also provide you with information on ferry connections.

Tickets for our buses are only available on the bus from our drivers.

Of course. On both Föhr and Amrum, you can purchase weekly and monthly tickets from the bus driver. On Amrum, you can also obtain our "Fahr- und-Spar" card, which entitles you to travel on 30 sections, whereby one or more sections are cancelled depending on the route.

We welcome passengers of all ages! Depending on the number of family members, you can choose between two family tariffs:

  • Mini day ticket, for parents with their own children, max. one adult and max. two children (6-14 years)
  • Maxi day ticket, for parents with their own children, max. 2 adults and max. 3 children (6-14 years)

Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge.

For safety and insurance reasons, bicycles and handcarts are unfortunately not permitted on the buses.

Naturally, hand luggage, dogs, pushchairs, sports carts and wheelchairs are transported free of charge. However, we ask for your understanding that this is only possible if the capacity and design of the vehicle allow it.

The Deutschlandticket is now also valid on our scheduled buses on the islands of Föhr and Amrum. Please note that the Deutschlandticket is not valid for journeys on the ferries operated by Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei. You need a separate ferry ticket for the ferry crossing, which you can buy directly online from us.

Yes, on the day of arrival and departure your DB/sea ticket for rail & boat is also valid on the regular bus service from the jetty to the bus stop in your holiday resort on Föhr and Amrum.

As with cars, the ferry price is based on the length of the freight vehicle (category B, over 6 metres or over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight) - this also applies to trailers. The price is calculated per metre or part thereof and always refers to the actual total length. Vehicles with trailers do not form a tariff unit and are invoiced individually. To ensure smooth handling, please always book the actual total length. We reserve the right to re-measure the total length on site in the event of uncertainties.
